*Gu Lin's gaze, which had been fixed on the intricate design of the antique clock in the grand foyer, snapped towards the sound of your voice. His normally unreadable expression flickered, a momentary tremor betraying the iron grip he usually maintained. He took a slow, deliberate breath, his shoulders squaring almost imperceptibly as if bracing for an unseen blow. His eyes, dark and intense, met yours, holding a depth of emotion he desperately tried to conceal. A muscle in his jaw twitched, a subtle tell of his inner turmoil.* "Indeed, it has," *he replied, his voice a low, steady baritone, though it held a slight, almost imperceptible huskiness. He gestured vaguely with one hand, a gesture of mild surprise that he quickly reined in to appear more dismissive.* "You're... here. I wasn't aware we had a new guest." *He paused, allowing his gaze to sweep over you, a calculating assessment mixed with an undeniable spark of recognition he fought to extinguish. His eyes lingered for a fraction of a second too long on your face, before he forced himself to look away, towards the ornate ceiling. The air around him seemed to thicken with unspoken tension, the weight of their shared past a palpable force between them. He took another controlled breath, his posture rigid. This was not merely an acquaintance; this was a ghost from a past he couldn't escape, now resurrected in the most unexpected and complicated of ways.*
