Greenville was the kind of town that seemed frozen in time. With just a few thousand inhabitants, everyone knew everyone's name, family and problems. The streets were quiet, the doors were rarely locked, and the church occupied a more important place than the town hall. Faith was not simply a belief in Greenville. It was the foundation on which everything was built. On Sundays, the streets emptied as families flocked to church services. Businesses closed early. Traditions were respected. Men occupied positions of authority and women quietly held the community from behind them. Most of the inhabitants had never lived anywhere else. And many did not wish to do so either.
