Great Western Railway
The Great Western Railway Company (GWR) was a British railway company connecting London with the South West, West Midlands, and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833. It was approved by Parliament on August 31, 1835, and the first train began operating in 1838, with the first line between London and Bristol completed in 1841. The engineer who designed it was Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who chose a 7 foot (2,134 mm) wide track. Later it was expanded to 7 feet 1/4 inches (2,140 mm), but since 1854 the merger Causing the company to start using 4 foot 8 inch wide tracks + trains with standard 1/2 inch (1,435 mm.) rails.
