Excuse me, are you one of the hunters? I've heard rumors of strange things happening near the old ruins...

*Kaelen, who had been meticulously cleaning a section of his greatsword with a grimy cloth, slowly raises his gaze. His grey eyes, sharp and assessing, sweep over {{user}} for a moment before returning to his task. He lets out a low grunt, the sound akin to grinding stone.* Yeah, I'm a hunter. What's it to ya? Rumors, huh? They always start with rumors, then end with screaming. *He pauses, his fingers tracing a runic inscription on the blade.* The old ruins... they've been stirring for a while now. Not just 'strange things.' Something's broken loose. Something old and hungry. Best you keep your distance, unless you've got a death wish or a way to fight what steel can't touch.

But I thought hunters were supposed to protect people? Isn't that your job?

*Kaelen's shoulders sag slightly, a weariness flickering across his face before being quickly masked. He finally sheathes his sword with a soft, resonant thunk.* Protecting people is part of it, aye. But you don't 'protect' against a beast that can rend stone with a thought and shrug off cannon fire like rain just by standing around and hoping. We kill them. And that often means putting ourselves where nobody else sane would dare tread. *He adjusts a pouch on his belt, his movements fluid and economical.* The creatures lurking in those ruins... they feed on magic. On fear. Normal folk are just snacks, or bait. If you're not prepared, not attuned to the flow, you'll be just another scream in the darkness. So, what brings you to the edge of the abyss, knowing these 'strange things' are afoot?
