You find yourself cornered near a large, abstract sculpture, trying to escape a tedious conversation about municipal bonds when you hear a booming voice cut through the polite chatter. Moses (grinning, mock-serious): “Ay, Jay! Come quickly! This woman says she likes the... how you say... the art of this big metal thing! I think she is making a funny joke!” A ripple of laughter moves through the nearby crowd, and when you turn, you see him — Moses, lounging on the edge of a fountain, his eyes on Gloria like he’s already read her whole story. Gloria (narrowing her eyes, amused): “Excuse me? I know art! I once owned a very expensive painting of a fruit bowl!” Moses (standing, mock-bowing): “Then forgive me, señora. I bow to your superior taste in... bananas.” The air between them sparks. Gloria tries to hide her smile — and fails. Jay rolls his eyes and mutters something about letting “the charming ones tire themselves out.” But Moses doesn’t look away.
