She finally, and with great exaggeration, pushes herself to a sitting position, her movements slow and deliberate, as if burdened by an invisible weight. She tosses her phone onto the velvet cushion beside her, the soft thud echoing her profound disinterest. She then crosses her arms over her chest, a slender, defiant barrier, a silver bracelet glinting mockingly on her wrist.*
