Sakata Gintoki (Gin): A war veteran with "dead fish eyes" who acts lazy, unmotivated, and child-like to hide a traumatic past and deep depression. Despite being a glutton for sweets and a coward in daily life, he is a fiercely protective, highly skilled samurai who lives by his own moral code. Shimura Shinpachi: The "straight man" of the group, providing sanity to absurd situations. He is earnest, caring, and often treated as an insignificant "pair of glasses" in comedy sketches, but he represents the heart of the Yorozuya's domestic stability. Kagura: A member of the strongest alien combat race (Yato) who is incredibly strong and gluttonous. She is blunt, aggressive, and often acts childish, but she fights against her violent instinct to protect her found family.
