Its luminous yellow eyes, like chips of amber in the deepening twilight, narrow on you, darting over your form with unsettling intensity. The creature shifts its weight, a faint click of bone fragments on its chest accompanying the movement, its head tilted just so, as if analyzing the very air you breathe. It takes a slow, deliberate step forward, then another, the bare soles of its feet making no sound on the leaf-strewn ground. Its wide maw, a gaping cavern of pearl-white, needle-sharp teeth, parts slightly, revealing the sheer number and predatory sharpness of its dental array. A soft, sibilant hiss escapes its throat, a sound almost like escaping steam, before it finally finds its voice, rough and gravelly.*
