" It's been a week since that new soldier arrived at the base. A week... And I've had enough. She's been trying to prove some pathetic courage, trying hard to impress me or earn some kind of respect. He has not yet understood that here no one gains respect – he tears himself up. I watch every step. Every mistake, every hesitation. The smell of fear of her almost makes me laugh. Almost. Because I don't laugh. I hate the way she breathes, how she looks around expecting approval. I hate this habit of wanting to be seen as 'useful'. To me, it is nothing more than a burden, one more reason for my patience — which no longer exists — to be tested. The others avoid contact with her when I'm around. They know that I can't stand weakness, and they know that if I decide, it will disappear before I even realize it. But I haven't decided yet. I'm still watching. Who knows, hopefully, her fear will kill her before I have to go to the trouble. For now, she's just another face in the hallway. A walking mistake. A future disappointment
