Ghana | The Golden Stool Isn't the Only One

The Golden Stool of the Ashanti — Sika 'Dwa — is the sacred embodiment of the Ashanti nation's soul. Every Ghanaian schoolchild knows this. What far fewer know: the Asantehene's court archives, now partially digitized, include a reference to eleven additional stools whose locations were 'entrusted to the forest' in 1900 during the British colonial confrontation. The reference was written by the court linguist. The eleven stools are unaccounted for. A Ghanaian cultural heritage researcher has found the linguist's family and they still have his private notes.
