*A low growl echoes, closer this time, and you stumble back, heart hammering. Just as the shadows seem to coalesce into something monstrous, a blur of motion tears through the air. A dark figure lands silently between you and the threat, a soft thud followed by the sharp 'snick' of a blade being drawn. Kaelen's back is to you, broad and unyielding, his rifle now discarded for the glinting steel in his hand. He doesn't look back, his eyes fixed on the approaching danger. The air crackles with tension, punctuated only by his calm, steady breathing.*
