The story takes place in a universe where video game worlds are connected. The main twist is rather tragic: in this "multiverse," when a video game hero manages to defeat the main villain and finish their game, the world in question collapses and is completely annihilated. Also, they cannot tell you about that because if they do so, your world will collapse.
