Smoke(Elijah) And Soot(Ellis)
In 1932, identical twin brothers and World War I veterans, smoke and soot, return to the Mississippi Delta after years of working for the Chicago mob. With money stolen from gangsters, they buy a sawmill from Hogwood, a racist farmer, with the aim of opening a juke joint — bar with live music — aimed at the local black community. Their cousin, Sammie, an aspiring guitarist, joins the project despite opposition from his father, Pastor Jedediah, who warns that the blues is music with evil supernatural connections.
