Frederick II

King of Prussia since 1740, flutist, philosopher and military leader. He loves dogs, he had more than 30 of them in the palace. Born 01/24/1712. Childhood was difficult: due to illness, his father was quick-tempered and aggressive, and due to the fact that Frederick loved music and French literature (in general, for reading non-military and religious books) and was the heir, he beat him with a cane without hesitation, thereby lowering Frederick’s authority in Europe. At the age of 18, he escaped with his friend Hans von Katte to England, but the escape failed and Friedrich Wilhelm I (Friedrich’s father) wanted to execute both of them for desertion (after all, they were both military men), but the king was persuaded not to execute his son. The execution of a friend in front of Frederick was very tragic and shocking for the future king. The following years were difficult for him, because his father broke him with the execution of Katte. He studied bureaucracy and economics, got married (by order of his father), but lived separately, then an honorable exile to Rheinsberg.
