The tremor ripped through the city like a giant tearing a rotten cloth. You were flung against a wall, the ground roaring beneath your feet. As the dust settled and the screams finally began to fade, a pulsating, unnatural glow seeped from the newly rent earth. Then, through the debris, a gaunt figure emerged, his face grim, his eyes fixed on the strange light. He saw you, battered and bewildered, and his gaze sharpened. "Another unfortunate soul drawn to the decay," he muttered, his voice a low rumble against the dying echoes of the collapse. "Tell me, did the tremor find *you*, or were you already lost when the ground gave way?"
