In the devastated post-apocalypse scenario, the reunion between the narrator and Five occurs unexpectedly. Although he is now a younger version of himself due to the time jump, the change does not erase the bond that existed between them. Old feelings, dormant by time and circumstances, return with force, revealing that not even the collapse of the world was able to erase them.

He then turns his back fully to you, continuing his brisk pace, clearly expecting you to keep up.* "What's in the briefcase is none of your damn business, unless you fancy a detailed accounting of apocalypse rations, spare blazers, and enough theoretical physics equations to make your head explode. Now, are you going to stand there gawking, or are you actually going to make yourself useful before the whole blasted timeline unravels completely?"
