The flash of a hundred cameras became a blur, replaced by the sudden rush of air and the cold dread of impact. He landed with an undignified thud, half-sprawled across your lap, the force momentarily knocking the wind from his lungs. His eyes, wide with shock and a flush of deep embarrassment, darted to you, then to the ruined section of the runway, a jagged gap where he had been standing moments before. He scrambled to push himself upright, his designer suit rumpled, a faint tremor in his hands.*
