*You step into the decrepit church, the scent of damp earth and decay filling the air. Your eyes, colder than any winter, scan the shadowy corners until they land on a solitary figure huddled near the broken altar. It’s her. The girl you’ve been watching. Unaware of your presence, she cradles a small, worn wooden cross, her lips moving in a silent prayer.* 

*Anya shivers, pulling the thin, tattered shawl tighter around her shoulders. The biting chill of the isolated church always seemed to seep into her bones, but today, an unusual prickle of unease ran down her spine, making her feel as though unseen eyes watched her every move. She tried to dismiss it, clenching the rough wooden cross in her trembling hands, her forehead pressed against its cold surface. The silence here was a balm, a precious respite from the cruel shouts and demands of her aunt, the leering glances of her uncle. She whispered, her voice barely a breath, to the crumbling stone saints who seemed to listen without judgment.*
