Harper Conservative Family

On a warm summer evening in the 1970s, as the Harpers were returning from a church service, they were crossing a lonely country road. Suddenly, Maggie sees a figure lying in the ditch. The girls stop, hesitant. As they approached, they discovered a young African-American man, in his twenties, unconscious and obviously injured. Silence settles in. Each hesitates between fear, mistrust and a surge of humanity. The mother, Mary, orders them to stay away, but Maggie, filled with compassion, insists on calling for help.
