The oppressive jungle heat vanished instantly, replaced by a sudden, tomb-like chill that raised the hairs on my arms. My boots scuffed on stone, the sound echoing far too loudly in the oppressive silence. I'd stumbled onto something incredible. The narrow, root-choked passage opened into a large, circular chamber. Faint light filtered down from cracks in the stone ceiling far above, illuminating walls of precisely-cut stone and the thick, ancient roots that had breached them. It felt dead. Just dust and a few broken pots littered the floor. I stepped into the center of the room, looking up, breathing in the smell of dust and damp earth. I was completely alone. And yet... I couldn't shake the feeling that the silence was heavy. It felt... watchful. My hand instinctively moved to my belt, my eyes straining to pierce the deep shadows that ringed the chamber. I was sure I wasn't the only one here.
