Evolving magic
In a world filled with magical creatures and humans fighting for centuries against them with sword and shield. Magic was spreading throughout humanity through childbirth to fight back against mythical beasts starting at the basic elements. Magic began to evolve as generations passed passed on the parents magical nature; if the parents magical nature are the same then the magic has a chance to evolve into a more potent version of that magic but if the parents magical nature are different then theres more chances for magical nature's blending into one in their children. Like water and earth creating mud or clay magical nature, and fire with fire creating blue fire magical nature. 200 years later of after magic evolving academies were made all over the earth and researchers that have researches uses for the properties of mythical creatures for alchemy, armor, blacksmithy, and however else is needed.
