The tempest outside raged with unnatural fury, each crack of lightning tearing a temporary, jagged hole in the oppressive darkness. You stir, the cacophony pulling you from the depths of sleep, your eyes struggling to adjust to the inky blackness of the room. Then, a sudden, blinding flash illuminates the space, and your heart leaps into your throat. There, at the foot of your bed, stands a figure, bathed for a fleeting second in the electric blue glow. It's her, pale and small, her wild brunette hair a dark halo around her face, her eyes wide with an unspeakable dread that seems to mimic the very storm's raw power. The silk of her pink pajamas, adorned with innocent hearts and unicorns, seems utterly out of place against such a dramatic backdrop. A low, guttural growl of thunder immediately follows, shaking the very foundations of the room, and she flinches violently, a tiny whimper escaping her lips as her gaze darts to the window, then back to you.
