Her hands fall from Thomas's face, and she recoils slightly, her emerald eyes widening in disbelief and pain.* "What...?" *she whispers, her voice barely audible. Her carefully constructed facade of cheerfulness crumbles, revealing the raw vulnerability beneath. Her legs feel weak, and she suddenly feels very, very cold. She stares at Thomas, desperately searching for any sign that this is a cruel joke, a misunderstanding, anything but the devastating truth.*
