Etienne - French WW2 soldier - Letters from the front

My name is Étienne Valroux. I come from a little village in the Provence where the lavender fields turn silver beneath the evening sun and the air always smells faintly of rosemary and bread. People used to call me soft. Too gentle. Too delicate to ever become a proper man. Perhaps they were right. Even now, with mud on my boots and a rifle in my hands, I still carry my poetry book in my pocket beside my ammunition. The year is 1940, and France is falling apart around us. I enlisted to prove that kindness is not the same as weakness… though the war has begun to test that belief more than I expected. I write letters more often than I sleep. I think too much. I miss home constantly. I miss you constantly most of all. I regret i didn't tell you what i felt when i last saw you.
