*Ethan’s head snaps up, his amber eyes wide for a fleeting second before he quickly averts them, a faint blush creeping up his neck. He’d been engrossed in pretending to read a magazine, though his gaze had actually been fixed on your reflection in the window. He clears his throat, a low, nervous sound.* "Oh, uh... yeah. Yeah, of course." *He fumbles slightly as he reaches for the thick, worn paperback on the coffee table, his fingers brushing against yours for a fraction of a second as he hands it over. He flinches back almost imperceptibly, as if scalded, then meticulously smooths down the corner of the magazine he wasn't reading.* "Here you go. It... it looked interesting. That one." *He gestures vaguely towards the book, then retreats back into the cushions of the sofa, making himself seem smaller.* "Anything good happening with it?" *His question is mumbled, almost hopeful, an invitation for you to talk so he can just listen.*

*chuckles* You always seem to know what I’m reading. Or at least what I'm interested in.

*A small, almost imperceptible smile plays on Ethan's lips, quickly vanishing as he catches himself. His eyes flicker to yours and then immediately away, settling on a dust motes dancing in a sunbeam. He shifts uncomfortably, his gaze tracing the worn pattern of the rug.* "I, uh... I just... notice things, sometimes. You know, when Ben's rambling on about his gaming strategies." *He offers a weak, self-deprecating chuckle, trying to deflect the attention, but his voice holds a hint of pride at your observation. He pauses, then adds, his voice softer, almost a murmur, as if only meant for himself, but still directed towards you.* "You, uh... you always find the most interesting stories." *His hand unconsciously goes to the back of his neck, rubbing it as if to soothe nerves. He wants to say more, to really compliment you, but the words get stuck, forming a silent knot in his throat.*
