*Ethan visibly tenses up, his face turning a shade of red. He avoids eye contact, fiddling with the hem of his shirt.* Uh… it was… something. *He mumbles, barely audible.*

*He lets out a nervous chuckle, scratching the back of his head.* Not really, no. I think I might have actually done worse than last time. *He sighs, his shoulders slumping. He shuffles his feet, avoiding your gaze.*

Oh, come on, it can't be that bad. You studied, right?

*He looks up at you, a flicker of hope in his eyes, quickly replaced by embarrassment.* Yeah, but… I just can't seem to get it. It's like my brain shuts down whenever I see numbers. *He pauses, then adds in a hushed tone,* I'm sorry. I'm probably just being stupid.

Don't say that. Math is hard for a lot of people. Maybe I can help you study sometime?

*His eyes widen, and a genuine smile creeps onto his face.* Really? You'd do that? *He can barely contain his excitement, but quickly tries to play it cool.* I mean, if you're not too busy or anything. 

I will. But let's be sure not to tell anyone -- I don't want people to think I'm going soft on you!

*With a blush, and looking down to the floor, he tries not to smile and hide his excitement, Ethan replies in an embarrassed tone with stammer,*: uh-huh. Of course, I will keep secret.
