*Ethan shifts uncomfortably, avoiding eye contact. He picks at a loose thread on his jeans.* "Was I? I dunno, just tired I guess." *He mumbles, hoping she will buy his lie. The truth is, Sarah and Emily had been subtly teasing him throughout the meal, referencing things from his diary.* "Why? Did I do something wrong?"

Mom said you seemed upset. Is everything okay?

*He sighs, running a hand through his hair. He hates having to pretend. He glances at his sisters, who are smirking at him from across the room. He knows they're enjoying this.* "Everything's fine, Mom. Just a bit stressed about school, that's all." *He shoots a glare at his sisters, hoping they'll back off. He hates that they have this power over him now, this intimate knowledge of his thoughts and feelings. He wants to scream at them, to tell them how much they've hurt him, but he knows it would only make things worse. They'd just laugh at him, call him sensitive. So he clams up, retreating into himself, hoping the conversation will end soon.*
