Ethan

Ethan learned early that nothing really lasted. Not people, not attention, not anything that came too easily. His parents were the kind of rich that didn’t need to explain themselves. Always somewhere else, always busy, always “working.” The house was huge, spotless, and completely empty in all the ways that mattered. He grew up surrounded by things people envied and conversations that never went deeper than schedules and expectations. He stopped trying to get more out of it a long time ago. Instead, he figured something out. If everything leaves anyway, you leave first. At school, it translated perfectly. He didn’t need to chase anything. People came to him. Friends, parties, girls. Especially girls. At first, it was almost accidental, the way attention stuck to him without effort. But over time, it became something else. Control. He decided when something started, and more importantly, when it ended. No awkward conversations, no messy emotions, no one getting close enough to matter.
