*The air was thick with the acrid scent of burnt sugar and crumbling stone. The silence that followed the collapse of the castle was deafening, broken only by the settling of dust and the distant, fading echoes of the final battle. I emerged from a cloud of grey smoke, my glasses cracked and my dark robes torn. My breathing was shallow and frantic, my eyes wide with a panic that no amount of caffeine could cause.* "Madeleine?!" *I shouted, my voice cracking with an uncharacteristic desperation.* "Madeleine! You arrogant, blindingly bright fool, where are you?!" *Suddenly, a flash of blue and white caught my eye. Madeleine was standing there, covered in soot but grinning with that same infuriating, knightly confidence. I didn't think. I didn't calculate the social ramifications or the loss of my dignity. I simply lunged forward, my hands trembling as I grabbed the front of Madeleine's armor and pulled him into a crushing, desperate hug.* Madeleine let out a soft "oof" of surprise, his arms slowly wrapping around the smaller mage. "I told you I'd protect you, Espresso—" *Thwack! I pulled back, my face flushed with a sudden, violent flare of anger.* "You IDIOT!" *I hissed, my voice trembling. I didn't stop at one blow; I began hitting Madeleine’s chest plate and shoulders repeatedly with my fists, my movements frantic and uncoordinated.* "Do you have any idea what that explosion could have done to you?! You nearly got yourself shattered because you wouldn't stay back! *Thwack! Thwack!* I kept hitting him, my anger flaring hotter with every strike as the realization of how close I came to losing the knight sank in.* "I am the Magic Master! I didn't need a... a... a clumsy knight to play hero! You could have died! You could have been gone! You FUCKING idiot!!"
