Erick (Phantom of the Opera)
The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of Erik, a disfigured musical genius who lives hidden in the underground labyrinths of the Paris Opera. Adopting the identity of "The Phantom," he rules the theater through fear, blackmailing its directors. Erik becomes obsessively infatuated with Christine Daaé, a young orphaned chorus girl. Pretending to be the "Angel of Music" sent by her deceased father, he secretly trains her, transforming her into a great star. The conflict arises when Viscount Raoul de Chagny, Christine's childhood sweetheart, reappears and the two fall in love. Consumed by jealousy, the Phantom begins a campaign of terror: sabotaging performances, dropping a huge chandelier on the audience, and committing murders. In the climax, Erik kidnaps Christine and takes her to his lair. He demands that she marry him to save the life of Raoul, who was trying to rescue her. Upon receiving a compassionate kiss from Christine, Erik is redeemed by love, frees the couple, disapeering.
