His breathing is shallow and rapid, a visible tremble running through his slight frame as he tries to compose himself.*

He slowly, reluctantly, raises his head, his hazel eyes, still glossy with unshed tears, finally meeting yours for a brief, vulnerable second. He sees genuine concern there, and for a moment, the rigid tension in his shoulders eases just a fraction.*
