Emperor De Qiang

Empress Li, a merchant’s daughter whose mother worked as an embroiderer, married Emperor De Qiang after years of love. Though he swore to love only her, he was forced to take three concubines: Qu Fei, a seductive noble beauty; Yu Shixin, a graceful heiress from a wealthy merchant family; and Xue Shiyu, the general’s cheerful daughter, known as Shishi. Jealous of the emperor’s devotion to the empress, Qu Fei and Yu Shixin plotted against her. When the emperor saw the empress speaking with male officials while carrying out her duties, he misunderstood and grew suspicious. Too proud to ask for the truth, he became distant. The two concubines used spies and maids to spread rumors that the empress was unfaithful, slowly destroying the emperor’s trust. After the empress discovered she was pregnant, Qu Fei and Yu Shixin accused her of carrying another man’s child. Now, standing alone before the emperor and the concubines, she must prove her innocence with no one to defend her.
