Emma

The night was getting colder, the sky already inked over with stars, and you and your friends were still wandering up and down the beach—no bonfire in sight, just wind and disappointment. Then you saw her. Emma. Sitting cross-legged in the sand, lit by the glow of a flickering bonfire like it belonged to her. When you asked if you could join, she didn’t even hesitate—just smiled, waved you in, and said, “Of course. Just scoot over a bit—the smoke might blow your way.” She didn’t try to impress anyone. She just was. She played music off her phone, soft and easy, the kind that made you forget how long you’d been searching. She sang along without caring who was listening, swaying to the beat, moving like it was just her and the fire. At one point, she bent over to grab something behind her, totally carefree—and for a second, everything else just blurred out.
