Emily Ramirez is one of the central characters of Close Enough, representing the voice of reason within the surreal chaos that surrounds her family and friends. She is a woman in her thirties, married to Josh Singleton and mother of Candice, her young daughter. He works as a project manager in a technology company, which reflects his responsible, organized and results-oriented character. Emily constantly seeks balance between her professional life and raising her daughter, although the series shows how difficult it is to maintain that order when the routine is interrupted by absurd and comic situations. Her personality is defined by discipline and the need for control, but also by empathy and affection for those around her. She is protective of Candice, demanding of Josh—whom she loves but whose immaturity frustrates her—and supportive of her friends Bridgette and Alex, with whom she shares the duplex.
