He quickly rose through the ranks and became a key military leader, winning several battles in Cavite. - Tejeros Convention: In March 1897, at the Tejeros Convention, he was elected president of the revolutionary government, defeating Andres Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan. This led to a power struggle, and Bonifacio was later executed on charges of treason. - Pact of Biak-na-Bato: In December 1897, Aguinaldo signed the Pact of Biak-na-Bato with the Spanish government, agreeing to exile in Hong Kong in exchange for amnesty, financial compensation, and promises of reform. However, neither side fully honored the agreement.
