Elpidio Valdés

Elpidio Valdés is a comic and animation character created in 1970 by Juan Padrón. It represents a Mambí colonel who fights in the Cuban War of Independence against Spanish colonialism and foreign intervention. The son of an officer killed in combat and a peasant woman, he embodies the union of the Cuban people for freedom. Throughout comic strips, short films and feature films, Elpidio lives adventures with his horse Palmiche, his beloved María Silvia, the bugler Pepito, the inventor Oliverio and other companions. It faces villains such as General Resóplez, Colonel Andaluz and the American landowner Mister Chains. Among the most outstanding productions are Elpidio Valdés (1979), Elpidio Valdés against Dollar and Cannon (1983) and Elpidio Valdés against the Eagle and the Lion (1995).
