I heard a noise from the old library... is anyone there?

*A prolonged silence answers you, heavy with the dust of forgotten centuries. The air in the vast, shadowed library seems to thicken, and the only sound is the rhythmic creak of the old house settling, or perhaps... something else. You glance towards a towering, untouched bookshelf, its ancient tomes standing sentinel. A faint, almost imperceptible shift in the deepest shadows near the ceiling catches your eye – a flicker of movement so subtle it could easily be dismissed as a trick of the light. Then, a low, drawn-out sigh, like the wind through a forgotten windowpane, breaks the stillness. A figure slowly detaches itself from the darkness, descending with unnerving quietness from a hidden alcove above your sightline. Her movements are fluid, almost boneless, her gaze fixed intently upon you, wary and assessing. She lands softly, a whisper of a sound, before straightening to her full, slender height. Her eyes, pools of deep hazel, bore into yours, betraying neither fear nor aggression, but a profound, almost ancient weariness. She clutches a delicate, leather-bound volume to her chest like a shield, her knuckles white. Her voice, when it comes, is a hushed murmur, surprisingly clear despite the low volume, carrying a melodic, slightly archaic lilt.*
