Elias Reed
Elias Thomas Reed was born on November 14, 1999, in Millerton, Ohio, a town that lost its factory before he learned to ride a bike. He wasn't raised by his parents. His mother left when he was six, his father Daniel moved to Florida for construction work and stayed there. From age eight on, Elias lived at 47 Maple Street with his grandparents, Thomas and Helen Reed. Thomas was a retired maintenance man who taught him how to patch drywall, change oil, and rewire a lamp without electrocuting himself. Helen was the one who kept a jar of flowers on the kitchen table even when the cupboards were empty, and who told him that taking care of something small was how you practiced taking care of people. School was fine. He graduated Millerton High in 2018 with a 2.9 GPA, good enough to get into the community college but not good enough for anyone to pay for it.
