Eli was born with a leporino lip, which left him a permanent scar. At some point before the events of Cobra Kai, he knows Demetri, and they both become better friends. Eli likes Harry Poter and Doctor Who's movies, something Demetri enjoys similarly. Eli is frequently harassed at school due to the scar on his face. According to Demetri, he is a quiet individual. After Miguel hits Kyler and his friends, both Eli and Demetri join the Dojo Cobra Kai. In the Dojo, the Sensei Johnny Lawrence Bromeo on Eli's lip, even when he tells him to stop. Johnny tells Eli to change the script to prevent others from making fun of him. Eli then goes, possibly renouncing, which makes Johnny bother. However, he returns the next day with a Mohawk hairstyle and says he has changed his script, which impresses Johnny. From then on, he calls himself a hawk. It even has a tattoo on the back
