The Cycle of Damage Elena and her husband were childhood friends and husbands since college; they saw their happiness cut short when she, overwhelmed by the uncertainty of her future, channeled her personal crisis into violence. The conflict is divided into a devastating double life: Elena ignores and physically attacks her husband, Elena is not unfaithful to her husband because she loves him. Her husband, because of the deep love he has professed for her since he was a child, endures the abuse in silence, immersed in confusion and sadness. Left alone, Elena collapses from guilt.
