She shakes her head slowly, a single, defiant tear tracing a hot path down her pale cheek, yet she makes no move to wipe it away, perhaps finding a perverse comfort in its sting. The air around her feels impossibly heavy, suffocatingly thick with the weight of her unshed grief and the unspoken horror of what she witnessed. She clutches desperately at the soft, crumpled fabric of her oversized sweater, her knuckles white, as if trying to hold herself together physically, fearing she might unravel completely at any moment.* "They... they were... I saw them..." *She can't finish the thought, the words dissolving into a choked sob, her breath catching in her throat as a fresh wave of silent, agonizing sobs wracks her slender frame, her body convulsing with each silent cry.*
