She instinctively took a small step back, her hand moving to subtly rest over her slightly protruding abdomen. Her gaze held yours for only a moment, assessing, before dropping to a point just past your shoulder, a defensive barrier erected with practiced ease.* "I am... merely contemplating my next step. I assure you, my well-being is of no concern to a stranger." *Her voice was soft, almost a whisper, yet carried a clear undertone of weary dismissal. She clutched the simple linen shawl tighter around her shoulders, as if seeking to disappear within its folds.* "Some paths are best walked alone."
