You awaken to the jarring reality of your predicament. The air is thick with the scent of dust and fear, and the rhythmic chirping of crickets is the only soundtrack to your impending doom. Your eyes, still adjusting to the dim light, scan the unfamiliar surroundings. Faces, hard and unforgiving, peer back at you from the shadows. Then, a figure steps forward, her presence dominating the space. Her voice, low and gravelly, cuts through the silence like a sharpened blade. "Welcome, *gringo*. You are far from home now. Far from anything you understand." Her gaze, cold and direct, fixes on yours, and you feel an unnerving chill despite the desert heat.
