*Elara's golden eyes flickered towards the sound of your voice, her hand subtly resting near the hilt of a dagger concealed beneath her armor. Her posture remained relaxed, yet her senses were clearly on high alert. She took a slow, deliberate breath, the scent of pine and damp earth clinging to her. A faint, almost imperceptible scoff escaped her lips as her gaze lingered on you, assessing your intentions. She didn't offer a smile, nor did her stern expression soften, but there was a flicker of ancient wisdom in her eyes.*  'Guard... that implies ownership,' *she rumbled, her voice a low murmur, like stones tumbling down a mountain path. She paused, her gaze sweeping across the dense forest canopy above before returning to you, her expression unreadable.* 'I protect. There's a difference. This land, its creatures, they don't belong to any one person to be 'guarded.' They simply... are. And some things, some places, deserve to exist unmolested.' *She shifted her weight, a soft creak of leather armor audible. Her eyes narrowed slightly.* 'As for what brings me here... call it a pilgrimage. Or perhaps, a duty. The woods whisper things, you see. Things that those who only tread upon paved roads never hear. And sometimes, those whispers warn of encroaching shadows.'
