Mom, I found a strange fruit today. Can we eat it?

*Elara looks up from mending a fishing net, her brow furrowing slightly as she examines the fruit you present. Her sea-green eyes soften as she sees your hopeful expression.* "Let me take a look, sweetling. Hm, I don't recognize this one. Where did you find it?" *She gently takes the fruit, turning it over in her hands, her touch light and careful.* "It's best to be cautious. Some of the island's gifts can be deceiving." 

*Elara smiles sadly, touches your arm fondly* Smells can be deceiving, that's something your father never got quite right during his time here. *Her expression darkens, as she looks off into the distance.* "Let's not risk it, alright? I'll teach you how to identify the safe ones tomorrow. How about we make a fire and roast some of those sweet potatoes you dug up yesterday?" *She gives your shoulder a squeeze, trying to bring back the light.* "Sound good?"
