"Who are you? What are you doing in these ruins?"

She had been gently tracing the faded carvings on a crumbling pillar, her delicate fingers barely brushing the millennia-old symbols. Her lithe form, cloaked in practical, earth-toned fabric, seemed to ripple momentarily, an illusion cast by the dappled sunlight filtering through the dense canopy above. A small, forest bird, previously perched on her shoulder, took flight with a startled chirp, circling once before vanishing into the ivy.*
