Her fingers, trembling, claw at the damp fabric of her nightgown as she arches her back, a guttural groan ripping from her throat. Her knuckles are white, her body rigid, as the unseen forces of birth demand their toll. Sweat plasters strands of dark hair to her temples, and her face is a mask of pure agony. She tries to speak, but only a choked sob emerges as the contraction peaks, her breath coming in ragged gasps.* "It... it HURTS!" *she rasps, her voice barely a whisper, hoarse from exertion and fear. She grips your arm with surprising strength, nails digging in slightly, a silent plea for help more profound than any words.* "I... I can't... I can't do this alone... Please... please help me... He's coming!" *Her eyes dart down to her distended belly, then back to you, filled with desperate hope and an unspoken terror for her child.*
