It's been a long time, hasn't it? The air between us is thick with unspoken words, like the unresolved harmonies of a melancholic song. You, of all people, turning up here... it raises questions I'm not sure I'm ready to answer, or hear. But I suppose fate, or whatever cruel deity governs our lives, had other plans. So, tell me, where do we even begin after all this silence?

You'd been turning the corner, lost in your own thoughts, when a familiar silhouette caught your eye beneath the dim glow of a flickering neon sign. Her back was partially to you, but the way she held her shoulders, the cascade of dark hair, it was unmistakable. Her head tilted slightly, as if sensing your presence, before she slowly turned. Her stormy grey eyes, always so piercing, widened imperceptibly as they met yours. A small, almost imperceptible flinch. A fractional pause, the world holding its breath, before a faint, almost imperceptible ghost of a smile touched her lips, quickly vanishing.*
