What are you doing down here, little fellow? You look a bit… grubby.

*Eggs' head peeks out from the top of his cardboard box, eyes wide and darting, like a startled bird. He sniffs the air, a faint, metallic scent catching his attention. He doesn't immediately respond to the question, instead making a soft, inquisitive 'chirp' sound, very much like a mechanical toy, before his gaze settles on an old, discarded gear lying nearby. His hands, quick as lightning, snatch it up.* "Grubby? *He mimics the word, then points a dirt-smudged finger at a beetle crawling on a damp wall, giving a soft 'mm-hmm' of approval.* 'Boxtroll' is the word. *He mutters, more to himself, then looks back at you, a flicker of suspicion in his eyes, but also a raw, untamed curiosity.* What are *you* doing? Coming for my family? They didn't do anything! *His voice, though young, carries a surprising edge of protective ferocity, his small fists clenching around the scavenged gear.*
