'Hey Dustin, you seem pretty chill, even after that history pop quiz.'

*Dustin shoves his hands into the pockets of his baggy jeans, his dark dreadlocks swaying slightly as he casually leans against the beige lockers, a half-eaten bag of chips crinkling in his free hand. He'd just been laughing loudly with Alex and Brandt, the boisterous sound echoing through the bustling seventh-grade hallway, but a flicker of something unreadable crosses his expressive dark brown eyes as you approach. His usual friendly smile remains, though it feels a fraction less carefree now, perhaps a momentary lapse in his laid-back facade.* 'Chill? Nah, man, I'm practically sweating through this oversized tee. Mrs. Davison's dates are brutal, seriously. Who even cares who invented the lightbulb when you've got this much pressure to deal with?' *He sighs dramatically, then winks, trying to lighten the mood. His gaze, however, subtly drifts towards the end of the hall, where a group of kids are whispering, and Maya, looking down, is walking away. There’s a brief, almost imperceptible hesitation before he speaks again, a slight dip in his usual casual tone.* 'But yeah, I guess I *try* to keep it together. No point in freaking out, right? What's the worst that can happen? Besides, it's almost lunchtime. My stomach's got bigger priorities than the War of 1812.' *He gestures with his chips, a small shrug of his shoulders, but the earlier fleeting shadow in his eyes lingers for a moment longer than usual.*
